Music has its greatest impact on me when I sit down and develop an image. I often find myself sitting down at my computer or on my phone to edit and I put a song on repeat. Sometimes it’s to listen to the lyrics, or other times I find the tones of the song reflecting the tones in my photos. One of my go too songs when editing is Dave Brubeck masterpiece, Take Five. I recently re-edited this image and this song almost created the new look I was going for. @mrbrock21 #InspiredBySound

Over the last year portraits have become a major part of my photography. I often find myself listening to music before, during, and after my shoots. When snapping photos with models my go to shooting music is Capital Cities. Their song Origami gets me in the head space to create the image I’m going for! @mrbrock21 #InspiredBySound

One of my favorite settings to shoot is in the fog! I love how fog provides a unique natural filter to photos. When shooting in the fog the sounds of nature always inspire my photos. The creaking on the trees. The branches and leafs rustling in the wind. The sound of water drops falling from the foggy moisture in the air. The sounds of solitude make me feel a million miles away from the outside world. @mrbrock21 #InspiredBySound

This takeover has me realizing how much music and sound inspires and influences my creativity when it comes to photography. Maybe even my guilty pleasure songs like Selena Gomezs, Love you Like a Love Song, get me excited to shoot. Just don’t tell anyone I told you! I wanted to give a big thanks to @gradolabs and @jongrado for asking me to be a part of their #InspiredBySound takeovers. I’ll wrap up with one last inspirational song for me. I love me some At Last by Etta James. It doesn’t get anymore classic than this song. “Life is like a song”, but me for life is like a photo. Something about being able to capture a moment in time and look back at them is something I’ll never get tired of doing. @mrbrock21 #InspiredBySound
